Dubai Police have taken action against a motorcyclist recorded traveling at speeds exceeding 290 kilometers per hour while performing hazardous stunts such as riding on one wheel and weaving dangerously between vehicles. The motorcycle was impounded, and the rider faces a Dh50,000 release fee along with further legal measures.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, stated that specialized traffic patrols identified and apprehended the rider after the footage circulated online. This enforcement reflects Dubai Police's strict policy against reckless driving that endangers motorists and other road users.

High-Speed Riding Poses Severe Risks

Brigadier bin Suwaidan highlighted that riding at such extreme speeds substantially diminishes a rider's control over the motorcycle, reaction time to sudden road changes, and ability to stop safely. This significantly increases the likelihood of catastrophic accidents within seconds. He noted that loss of control at these speeds can result in the rider being thrown a great distance and colliding with barriers, lamp posts, curbs, or entering oncoming traffic, often causing fatal or life-altering injuries.

Unlike occupants of enclosed vehicles, motorcyclists lack physical protection during collisions, making such behavior especially perilous.

Dangerous Maneuvers and Risks to Others

The official warned that weaving between vehicles at excessive speeds creates unpredictable hazards for all road users. A vehicle changing lanes after ensuring the road is clear may suddenly face a speeding motorcycle arriving moments later, leaving insufficient time to avoid a crash.

Riding on one wheel was described as one of the most dangerous stunt maneuvers, as it compromises the motorcycle's balance, steering, and braking capabilities, while increasing the risk of losing control due to road surface irregularities, obstacles, wind, or changing conditions.

Impact on Other Motorists

Brigadier bin Suwaidan also explained that excessive speed narrows a rider's field of vision, impairs distance judgment, slows decision-making, and amplifies the force of any collision. Such conduct endangers not only the rider but also innocent motorists, potentially causing chain collisions from sudden evasive actions.

He emphasized that Dubai Police employ advanced enforcement technologies and active patrols to detect and apprehend reckless drivers and riders. He urged all motorcyclists to adhere to traffic laws and ride responsibly, stating, "The road is not a place for stunts or speed tests," underscoring the shared responsibility to preserve lives on the road.
